The Coiled Firing Pin Retaining Pin needs to be replaced whenever removed, to check the Firing Pin, or cleaning the channel it operates in. Use of the proper OEM parts is necessary to prevent possible malfunctions. Dry firing without a Snap Cap can also produce damage to this part, as it in turn stops the Firing Pin's forward momentum instead of a Snap Cap, and can weaken the coiled pin by being damaged.

Since many variations of this part exist, insure you are getting the correct one. From the Inner and Outer Roll Pins of the German folded slides, to the Solid splined pins, to two variations of the Coiled pin, if you aren't sure, ask.
