This insert is shaped to fit a Colt Single Action revolver frame so that the frame wrench has a secure grip on it. I have come to really like the MGW frame wrench for replacing revolver barrels. I have another design that clamps inserts with bolts but it isn't any more secure than the MGW or as easy to use. I have been a gunsmith for 45 years and made the switch to the MGW wrench about a year ago.
I recently used the MGW to replace a barrel on a 1982 S&W Model 29 that was really, really tight. I had to use a 2 foot cheater bar but the frame came out perfectly, without any straightness issues. The inserts match the frame exactly and don't allow it to "tweak" at all. I bought the Colt SAA to work on an older revolver and have actually made inserts for S&W J-frames from a MGW blank.
I heartily recommend the MGW wrench and insert system. Not cheap but neither is replacing a revolver because you screwed it up!
