Part of the complete backplate assembly, the buffer sits below the recoil spring assembly to provide a safe buffer area as the bolt travels. While cleaning SL8 noticed buffer was cracked and small pieces broken off. MGW had the exact part to replace and I received new buffer in four days, installed and fit perfectly.
